President's Day

Today we painted our presidential silloutte backgrounds and will finish our writing tomorrow. We also made our Yankee Doodle Hats and marched around the room being the Yankee Doodles or Patriots. Where else to you get paid to have so much fun!

Yankee Doodle

I always enjoy introducing my President Day activities with the song of Yankee Doodle.  We sing the song, have fun, and dont discover the true meaning of the song until after we have read a couple of books about George Washington.  To clairfy... a Yankee Doodle was what the British call the Patriots, making fun of them because they were so torn and tattered.  Macroni was the fancy decoration on the British uniform.  The Yankee Doodle stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni!  Now the song makes sense.  Be sure to sing all 3 verses with your kids.  Tomorrow we will make our Yankee Doodle 3 cornered hats.  We we also learn the song, my hat it has three corners.  Kindergarten is the best!

Do I need a blog? How do I publish a Blog? Is it worth my time?

As I search and search the internet for new ideas, all I see are blogs, blogs, blogs.  What happened to all the time spent learning to create a website, learn HTML and then try to publish! It seems like I am just in the learning stages of that, then all of a sudden here come blogs. (slow learner that I am) Like my husband says.. what are you getting out of this?  Should my time be better spent searching other peoples great work and creating quality lesson plans?  I would love some comments, feed back etc from others on this dilema.  I dont want to be left behind so to speak, but teaching this dog new tricks is challenging.   My thoughts are that maybe there could be posts on how to make blogging very easy, and really what is the purpose?  So to all my older fellow kindergarten teachers, lets create some resources to make this venture easy.
